Applications are invited for a specified purpose post of a Finance Assistant within UCD National Virus Reference Laboratory

The Finance Assistant will have responsibility in day-to-day financial administration, including procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable. The Finance Assistant may also be required to assist with budget preparation and monitoring and preparation of monthly management accounts. It is envisaged the role portfolio of the postholder will be flexible to accommodate the financial administrative requirements of the College of Health and Agricultural Sciences and as such may be allocated accordingly.

The first assignment for the post holder will be based in the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL) reporting to the NVRL Finance Manager. The NVRL provides a national diagnostic and reference service for clinicians investigating viral infections. Samples are received from hospital pathology laboratories within the four Health Boards and from General Practitioners throughout Ireland. The laboratory offers approximately 120 tests for the diagnosis of at least 45 different pathogens and the current workload involves testing in excess of 760,000 tests per annum. The annual revenue of the laboratory is in excess of €15million and is derived by charging an individual cost per test whereby each private hospital, clinic and the individual health boards, receive monthly invoices based on their use of the service.

The SEA will have responsibility for the Accounts Payable function of the NVRL, under the supervision of the NVRL Finance Manager or Financial Management Staff within the College. In addition, he/she will work on Accounts Receivable, and the corresponding month end duties that arise. The person will become a contributor to the monthly management reporting process and other accounting activities. Skills required include numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and team-working skills.
