The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) seeks to appoint a Data Protection Manager to join the team to lead and manage all ethical and data protection activities covering data collection, data access and data use. TILDA, a well-established population study in Ireland, has built a strong reputation for producing high-quality, policy-relevant research on ageing and maintains an active research project portfolio. Ageing is identified as one of the strategic research themes in TCD and TILDA continues to build on Trinity’s Research Excellence Strategy. Trinity College Dublin is recognised internationally as Ireland’s premier university and has a portfolio of research activity of which Ageing is a key research theme. The Data Protection Manager will support the TILDA Senior Management Team to safeguard TILDA’s datasets and ensure that data collection, data access, data sharing and data use activities are conducted in compliance with current and future legislation by all stakeholders.

TILDA is one of the most comprehensive longitudinal study databases on ageing worldwide. TILDA investigates the underlying biological, environmental, economic, social, and behavioural determinants of health and wellbeing and novel biomarkers and risk factors for health and disease, as well as informing planning, implementation, and evaluation of national policies, programmes, and services. Established in 2006 and based on a population-representative sample of >10,000 community-dwelling individuals aged 45 and over, TILDA has more than 1.6 billion datapoints.  The study is closely harmonized with other international longitudinal studies such as the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) and the US Health and Retirement Study (HRS).

The Data Protection Manager is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of TILDA data activities are in line with current and future ethical standards, GDPR, the Data Protection Act, and Health Research Regulations. The Data Protection Manager will work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of policy and academic research on a wide range of issues in ageing research. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance by staff and all users of TILDA data with current and future legislations; provide data protection support and guidance to the TILDA team across all aspects of research projects including grant applications, Data Protection Impact Assessments, Risk Assessments, data sharing agreements, bio-sample material access and transfer, ethics applications, ethics amendments, and contract execution.  Please refer to TILDA website for further details:
