The purpose of this post is to lead statistical input into trials and similar studies in the TCD School of Medicine and its partner teaching hospitals (i.e. St. James’s Hospital, Tallaght University Hospital, Coombe Hospital etc), to lead a relevant complementary programme in statistical research, and to contribute to teaching and training in this area.  The post holder will support School of Medicine academic clinicians and clinician scientists with expert trial design and statistical advice and will lead their own statistical research relevant to trial statistics. They will develop and deliver statistics teaching to improve capacity in this area in the School of Medicine, contributing to taught postgraduate programmes.

The post holder will be part of the senior management team of the Clinical Research Facility and may be asked to take on other leadership roles within the School and College, including in partnership across the Trinity associated hospital network and HSE region. The post holder will collaborate with the School of Computer Science and Statistics in developing a network of statistical researchers within, and working with, the School of Medicine and work collegially with the Professor of Biostatistics.

The Wellcome HRB Clinical Research Facility at St. James’s Hospital (CRF) is a partnership between Trinity College Dublin (TCD) School of Medicine and St. James’s Hospital funded by Wellcome and the HRB.  The €10 million 1,300M2 facility was opened by An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, on the 30th May 2013 and is located in the heart of St. James’s Hospital, under the Directorship of Professor Martina Hennessy in Trinity’s School of Medicine.

The Discipline of Public Health and Primary Care incudes the Institute of Population Health at Tallaght, The Centre for Health Policy and Management, and School of Medicine input into the Trinity Centre for Global Health. The discipline is home to the University Chairs in Biostatistics, General Practice, Population Health Medicine, and Health Policy and Management.

The School of Medicine and the CRF now seek a senior statistician with experience of Randomised Control Trial Design to establish statistical research within the CRF and to support clinicians, allied health professionals and translational scientists undertaking health research with our Hospital partners.  Reporting to the CRF Director, and the Head of Discipline, Public Health and Primary Care, the successful candidate will become a vital part of the CRF’s Senior Management Team in support of clinical investigators across TCD’s partner hospitals and health system.

Post Title: Associate Professor in Statistics and Trial Design

Post status: 5-year Fixed-Term Contract

Hours of work: 0.6 FTE – 0.8 FTE

Salary: Appointment will be made on the Associate Professor (Former pay scale name ‘Senior Lecturer’) (Schedule B) pro-rated Salary Scale (105B) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy (€85,675 to €110,635 pro-rata per annum)
