Salary:

Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer (2022) Salary Scale: €72,731 - €102,714 per annum (8 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

Associate Professors in Maynooth University are expected to provide intellectual leadership, through a demonstrated commitment to both research and education, and via a contribution to their Department, the Faculty and the University.

We are seeking an outstanding academic to join our staff as Associate Professor of History. The person appointed will have an excellent record in research, with a track record in securing national and/or international funding and will ideally be the holder of a significant research grant. This post is open to applicants with a research profile in twentieth-century history, in a strongly interdisciplinary context, and with a proven interest in the history of science. The successful applicant will join a Department with an excellent research profile and publications record. They will be expected to add value to the Department’s research culture by bringing with them research-funding.

Principal Duties

Research:

This will include:

  • Conducting research and engaging in scholarship of quality and substance in the discipline;
  • Generating external income or securing resources to support scholarly activity as necessary;
  • Disseminating research and scholarly outcomes through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national and international conferences, or other appropriate means;
  • Affiliating with a University Research Institute, where appropriate;
  • Fostering links with other institutions which will benefit both research and teaching at Maynooth University;
  • Integrating research into the teaching curriculum;
  • Supervising research students and post-doctoral fellows.

Teaching:

Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching duties are assigned by the Head of the Department. The duties will include:

  • Teaching and assessing students at undergraduate level. This may include lecturing, project supervision, and setting, supervising and grading assessments;
  • Teaching, supervising and assessing postgraduate students, including lecturing, leading seminars, supervision of student research, and setting, supervising and grading assessments;
  • Designing and teaching new courses, developing programme curricula;
  • Enhancing and innovating in teaching and assessment practice;
  • Outreach, promotional activities, and recruitment of undergraduate and post-graduate students;
