Post summary

The Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Irish Politics, to commence on 1st September 2024. This is a tenure-track position.

The School wishes to make the appointment in the area of comparative politics, with a particular ability to research and teach in the politics of Ireland. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate outstanding excellence in teaching and have experience in teaching as lead instructor for a variety of modules.  The successful candidate should be able to teach and supervise undergraduate and masters-level dissertation topics in various areas of political science, as well as to contribute flexibly across the range of the Department’s teaching needs. The successful candidate will have an active research agenda/publication strategy as well as an approach to research that complements the Department of Political Science’s existing strengths in comparative and institutional analysis.

The normal teaching load for an Assistant Professor in the department would be four semester-length modules per year. A single semester-length module normally requires 22 hours of FTF teaching. Assistant professors are also expected to do a certain amount of postgraduate research supervision and to contribute to the administration of the programme and/or the department more generally.
