The Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a junior researcher or professional to work on the “BIO4EEB (BIO insulation materials for Enhancing the Energy performance of Buildings)” research project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe framework.
The aim of this 4-year industry-academia collaborative research project is to evaluate alternative construction and insulation materials from the perspective of energy demand, climate change and environmental contexts. The CEU’s role is in building energy modeling as well as in lifecycle analysis.

Your duties and responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be the main CEU researcher on the project, guided by Prof. Diana Urge-Vorsatz. She/he will actively contribute to the project by co-developing the methodology, conducting the research, and ideally the modeling work for the CEU tasks in the project, as well as writing research reports as well as publications. The successful candidate will represent the project in selected scientific meetings.

Your skills and qualifications:
The successful candidate

  • has a PhD in a field related to the project (e.g. Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Energy, Modelling, Climate Change, Environmental Sciences or Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.) or is willing to conduct PhD studies in environmental sciences,
  • has some programming skills ideally in Python,
  • can conduct research independently,
  • is able to write reports and scientific publications in English.
  • Knowledge of lifecycle analysis or building energy use, modeling, or energy modeling experience is a plus.

The contract can be an employment or a freelancer contract. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
