The Democracy Institute at the Central European University invites applications for a part-time Post-doctoral Researcher position within the framework of the Horizon Europe research project RAISE .

The RAISE Project

The Recognition and Acknowledgement of Injustice to Strengthen Equality is an international project funded by the European Union in the Horizon Europe programme. RAISE is run by a consortium of 9 institutions, including Utrecht University (leader), the University of Warsaw, KU Leuven, Central European University, Izmir University of Economics, University of Konstanz, Open Republic, Association for Monitoring Equal Rights and Uccu Roma Informal Educational Foundation. The project studies the awareness of boundary-making processes in reproducing structural racism and xenophobia and seeks to provide empirical evidence of what actions will support equality. It takes an interdisciplinary approach and aims to create research in collaboration with NGOs that address racism and xenophobia.

Duties and responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected mainly to contribute to Work Package 3 “Intersectional identities and their inequalities on the labour market in Europe” and participate in the quantitative part of the research. Tasks include

• Contributing to the mapping of statistical data sources suitable for analyzing intersectional identities (of race, ethnicity, immigrant background, religion, gender and social position) and their role in labour market inequalities comparatively across countries of the Raise consortium and Europe and
• Constructing a comprehensive database from available data
• Contributing to descriptive and complex statistical analysis of data
• Building statistical models explaining structural discrimination based on intersecting identities
• Co-authoring research reports, presentations at conferences and seminars
• Cooperating with the NGOs involved in the project

Required skills and qualifications:

• PhD in Sociology, Survey Statistics or related discipline
• Interest in the topic of discrimination, prejudice and racism (research experience and theoretical expertise in the field will be an asset)
• Excellent written and spoken English skills
• Ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in an international team

Advantages:

• Strong interest in, or some background knowledge of the study of discrimination and the role of institutions
• Strong interest in academic research, ideally proven through publications and/or collaboration in research projects
