The Department of Political Science at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a full-time Junior Department Coordinator position. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Background:

The Department of Political Science at CEU is a close-knit community and consists of more than 20 permanent faculty members and 80 students. The department is committed to academic freedom, equal access to education and collegial self-governance. Our department strives to develop and nurture a scholarly community of faculty and students who engage in a common process of education and research, with special emphasis on contemporary challenges facing society.

We offer a BA program, two master’s programs and a doctoral program in political science. The department’s reputation for excellence in teaching and research has also been acknowledged by professional world university rankings and is currently ranked as one of the top 25 programs globally by QS World University Rankings and 76-100 globally by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Administration of the teaching programs, course enrollment, teaching schedule, and room assignments.
  • Planning, coordinating the department’s activities.
  • Scheduling and administering exams, defenses.
  • Managing the department’s websites and social media platforms.
  • Developing and implementing marketing and recruiting strategies, including digital marketing campaigns.
  • Identifying marketing trends and opportunities for growth.
  • Liaising with other university offices at CEU (Student Records, Budget, Communications, Admissions, Recruitment, Dean of Students etc.)
  • Providing high-level administrative support to the Head of Department, Faculty Fellows, students, and guests, and providing limited student services support.
  • Organizing academic and social events, meetings.
  • Administering faculty projects.
  • Maintaining and updating databases.
  • Compiling report and evaluations.
  • Handling day-to-day technical problems.
  • Participation in the department’s daily operations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
  • A strong interest in and ability of working with students in an international environment.
  • High level computer literacy and advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite and mastery of databases.
  • Experience with online learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, MS Teams).
  • Experience with managing social media platforms and web-editing.
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills.
  • Structured and flexible way of thinking.
  • Ability to work alone and in a team.
  • A precise, proactive and efficient attitude and work ethics.
  • Ability of prioritizing multiple tasks and taking initiative.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and learn new tasks quickly.
  • German language knowledge is an advantage.
  • Previous administrative experience in higher education is preferable.

Compensation

We offer a competitive gross annual salary of 39.000 EUR, commensurate with experience as well as a dynamic and international academic environment.
