Applicants are invited for appointment as Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in the Department of Materials and Energy (Ref.: 537252), to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support the newly established Department of Materials and Energy, under the Faculty of Engineering, as a University initiative to foster dynamic and cross‑disciplinary activities. The overarching aim of the Department is to foster closed-loop interdisciplinary collaboration in materials science and engineering, with a strategic emphasis on energy materials and energy engineering. 

We welcome candidates from the following areas of Materials or Energy Engineering:

  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Materials Characterization
  • Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Materials
  • Materials Chemistry
  • Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology
  • Energy Materials
  • Computational Materials
  • AI for Materials
  • Structural Materials

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Materials, Energy Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline, together with relevant tertiary-level teaching experience and a demonstrated track record in knowledge exchange, curriculum development, pedagogy and academic administration.

The appointee will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Key duties will include:

  • Delivering high-quality teaching and contributing to course design for undergraduate and postgraduate modules;
  • Supervising student capstone projects and other project-based learning activities;
  • Providing academic advising and pastoral support to students;
  • Leading and supporting curriculum development and actively engaging in knowledge exchange activities;
  • Contributing to student recruitment, admissions and outreach events, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to promote the Department; and
  • Serving on departmental committees and undertaking other administrative duties as required.

Applicants with more than five years of outstanding tertiary-level teaching experience (or equivalent professional experience) and a strong record of pedagogical excellence and leadership in curriculum design may be considered for appointment as Senior Lecturer.

What We Offer

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
