Student Assistant – Analysis of root traits from a field experiment

Your Job:

Your main task is to analyze root samples from a field experiment with wheat, in which we are looking at the effect of breeding (different cultivars) on root traits. This consists of 3 main steps: (i) preparation of the samples for root scanning (i.e. root washing and sample storing); (ii) root scanning with a high-resolution scanner and analysis of the images with root image analysis software; and (iii) data analysis of the effect of breeding on several root traits (number of root axes, root diameter).

• Preparation of root samples for image analysis
  
• Image analysis with scientific software
  
• Data processing and statistical analysis (optional)

Your Profile:

• Interest in plant science
  
• Advanced Bachelor or Master studies in Agriculture/Plant Science/Biology or other natural science
  
• Self-organized way of working
  
• Experience in working with scientific data is an advantage
  
• Experience with root image analysis software (e.g. WinRhizo, SmartRoot, RhizoVision) is advantageous
  
• Language skills: English and / or German
