Postdoc – Design and Control Theory of NV-Based Quantum Simulators

Updated: 31 minutes ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Your Job:

  • Develop techniques to simulate and control the dynamics of a diamond-based spin system for increasing system complexities
  • Find parameter regimes and control schemes to map interesting many-body Hamiltonians on experimentally realizable spin systems
  • Cooperate and actively work with experimental partners developing quantum simulators using this technological platform
  • Design and implement optimization techniques tailored to experimental constraints

Your Profile:

  • Master’s degree and PhD in quantum physics (or in a related domain)
  • Background and strong interest in developing theoretical models and methods, as well as in implementing numerical optimization techniques
  • Interest in working closely with experimental research teams
  • Detailed knowledge of quantum physics and experience with quantum technology, ideally with color centers in diamond
  • Strong analytic and numerical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English
  • Ability to work autonomously and in close interaction within a team
  • Most importantly: enthusiasm to explore uncharted territory, develop, and follow your own ideas

Our Offer:

We work on the very latest issues that impact our society and are offering you the opportunity to actively help in shaping change. Here is what Forschungszentrum Jülich can offer you:

  • Opportunity to conduct research at the interface of theory and experiment in a world-leading group in quantum technology
  • Work in a highly motivated research group as part of an international and interdisciplinary working environment with access to outstanding computing facilities and connections to the best research institutions around the world
  • Opportunity of participating in conferences and project meetings
  • Be in direct contact with leading experimental groups in quantum simulation and computing platforms
  • Enhance your expertise on the multiple facets of numerical and optimization technologies and experimental quantum-simulation platforms; these skills are in high demand both in academia and in high-tech companies: at present, there is significant investment from private and governmental funding agencies in the field of quantum technologies
  • Outstanding computing facilities in one of Europe’s largest research establishments
  • Information on employment as a postdoctoral fellow at Forschungszentrum Jülich can be found here: https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/careers/professionals/postdocs
  • Flexible working hours in a full-time position (39 hours/week) with the option of slightly reduced working hours to accommodate your family obligations
  • 30 days of annual leave and provision for days off between public holidays and weekends (e.g. between Christmas and New Year)

In addition to exciting tasks and a collaborative working atmosphere at Jülich, we have a lot more to offer: https://go.fzj.de/benefits

We offer a postdoctoral position initially limited to 2 years with the possibility of a longer-term perspective. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.

We particularly welcome applications from people from a diverse range of backgrounds (e.g. regardless of age, gender, disabilities, sexual orientation/identity, as well as social, ethnic, and religious background). We strive to offer a diverse and inclusive working environment in which people enjoy equal opportunities and are able to fulfill their potential.
