The research-based infrastructure of the Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), based at DIW Berlin, is one of the largest and longest-running multidisciplinary panel studies in the world, currently surveying about 30,000 people in nearly 15,000 households each year. SOEP claims to capture social change and is thus confronted with ever new and diverse topics and tasks. Its data collection and generation follows the concept of the survey or data life cycle.

To start as soon as possible we are looking for a

PhD Student and Research Associate (f/m/nonbinary)

(part-time at 65%)

Tasks

  • Research assistance in the field of survey methodology with focus on data science
  • Statistical generation of synthetic data in the field of big data and in the context of multiple imputation of missing data
  • Cooperation with project team members in the SOEP at DIW Berlin as well as the SOEP working group on survey methodology
  • Presentation of study results at national and international conferences

Requirements

  • Academic degree in data science, statistics, survey statistics, empirical social sciences, or economics
  • In-depth statistical knowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of the analysis of quantitative survey data
  • Confidence in the use of data analysis methods and software (Stata, R)
  • Good knowledge of Python is advantageous
  • Very good command of English
  • Independent, self-reliant, and committed approach to your work
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills

The position is linked to a PhD degree completed in the framework of a structured doctoral program, preferably in the Berlin area. A doctoral agreement will be signed with DIW Berlin that will guarantee, among other things, qualified individual supervision.

The position will be paid in line with the TVöD Bund pay scale, salary group EG 13. The contract is for a fixed-term period of 48 months.
