The Pagel Research Group at the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Freie Universität Berlin focuses on the structural analysis and sequencing of complex biomolecules. The main emphasis is on the analysis of oligo-saccharides using ion mobility mass spectrometry and gas-phase infrared spectroscopy. Within the framework of the Collaborative Research Center 1340 "Matrix in Vision," glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and their complexation with cationic imaging probes are investigated using various techniques. The position to be filled here aims to significantly strengthen instrumental analytics within the CRC through chromatography, mass spectrometry, and ion mobility mass spectrometry.

Job description:
• Research activities for the structural analysis of GAGs within the CRC 1340 "Matrix in Vision"
• Extraction and purification of GAGs using chromatographic methods
• Structural characterization using ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS)
• Central tasks of laboratory management
• Supervision/guidance of technical staff and doctoral students
• Preparation of scientific publications and reports
• Presentation of research results at conferences and meetings

Requirements:
• Completed Master`s degree and completed doctorate in Chemistry or Biochemistry
