The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) invites applications for an Engineer (m/f/d) for Protein Mass Spectrometry Unit.


Your tasks

The successful applicant will develop/establish advanced methods for plant proteomics and engage multiple collaborations primarily within the institute. Expected duties include operation, maintenance, and update of LC-MS instruments and data analysis environments, support of scientists in designing experiments and preparing publications, and supports of the head of Protein Mass Spectrometry Unit. The group is equipped with state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometers, which are used for peptide identifications and large-scale proteomic approaches.


Your qualification

We are seeking an enthusiastic person, who completes and advances our proteomics group. Prior knowledge of peptide identification by mass spectrometry as well as experience in running and maintaining mass spectrometers are essential. Experience of sample preparation from plant materials is desirable.

Successful applicants should hold a MSc or PhD in Biology / Biochemistry / Chemistry. Proven experience with the operation of high-resolution mass spectrometers, analysis of MS data, and plant proteomics is a requirement. Computer skills including the use of statistical and scripting languages is beneficial but not a requirement. Fluent written and spoken communication in English is essential, and German would be advantageous.

Additionally the successful applicant should be highly self-motivated and team oriented. Strong communication and organizational skills are expected.
