The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of German language education (L1) with a focus on the written word (writing and text), specializing in the secondary school level (lower and upper secondary; comprehensive schools and higher academic track)

Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz).

Successful candidates must hold a university degree in German studies, preferably in teacher education for German (first language education, secondary school level). They will also hold a doctoral degree, ideally in German linguistics or language education. Furthermore, successful candidates should have teaching experience at the university level, including international teaching experience where possible. They should also have an excellent record of international research activities in the field of German language education with a focus on writing and text, and have experience in secondary education as defined under Section 100.3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The scope of the professorship should include working closely with the Dahlem School of Education as well as other departments and divisions that offer teaching education programs at Freie Universität Berlin. The new professor will be expected to contribute to the development and establishment of research partnerships. They will cooperate with other disciplines and subject areas at the institute and within the department, and will also be expected to address gender and diversity issues in their research and teaching.
