Offer Description
The mission is part of the program of the ANR Collaborative Research Project 'Simulation and Imaging of the Mitral Regurgitation' (SIMR) led by the INRIA COMMEDIA team which includes 6 partners and started in February 2020. Mitral valve regurgitation (or mitral insufficiency) is one of the most frequent pathologies of the mitral valve. The diseased valve can either be replaced or repaired surgically. The SIMR project has two objectives: 1) to evaluate the quality of mitral valve repair using the NeoCHord technique using innovative imaging and modeling tools (15 patients), 2) to develop tools for numerical simulation of cardiac hemodynamics, fluid-structure interaction and biomechanics.
In this context, the researcher recruited will be responsible for the analysis of imaging data and the evaluation of cardiac function based on the combination of imaging and modelling data. Specifically, he/she will be responsible for the analysis of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) data to construct a geometric and parametric model of the left ventricle for use in finite element simulations of cardiac dynamics over the cycle. These simulations should provide a more accurate and complementary characterization of the mechanical characteristics of the repaired heart.
This work will be based on the imaging protocol and the common database set up in the framework of the project and supervised by the CREATIS laboratory (WP2 of the SIMR program).
The SIMR project will collect imaging data from patients before and after mitral valve repair and make it available on a common secure platform. The researcher recruited will develop the data processing chain to:
- Construct patient-specific, geometric, parameterized models integrating the information produced by i) CT (high-resolution heart-valve anatomical model) for simulation developments (WP3 of the SIMR program), ii) MRI: anatomy (left ventricle), tissue properties, motion (Feature Tracking in Cine-MRI, DENSE),
- Develop a multi-parametric method for multi-scale partitioning of the heart into regions with different characteristics, particularly in terms of kinematics. This decomposition has a double objective: i) to study its link with the impact of the repair, ii) to constitute an initialization of the inverse biomechanical approach for the mechanical characterization of the heart,
The "Laboratoire de Recherche Translationnelle et Innovation en Médecine et Complexité" (TIMC) is a joint research unit of the CNRS, Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA), Grenoble INP and VetAgro Sup, with a staff of nearly 300 scientists and clinicians working on the use of computer science and applied mathematics in the fields of biology and health. (www.timc.fr )
The work will be carried out mainly at the CREATIS Laboratory (http://www.creatis.insa-lyon.fr/ ) on the LyonTech-La Doua Campus site in Lyon, for the medical data analysis component, in interaction with the BIOMECA team from the TIMC laboratory in Grenoble, for the biomechanical modelling component. Travel to the Saint Etienne CHU site (reference center for cardiac MRI) will be necessary for patient acquisitions. The researcher recruited will work with the team's permanent staff involved in SIMR and the team's doctoral/post-doctoral students working on related subjects.
