Offer Description

The university of Bordeaux is a great dynamic and responsible university that cares about the well-being of its staff. Joining us means working in a privileged environment within a particularly diverse and open professional community, benefiting from welcome and inclusion schemes, training and internal mobility. It means participating in an academic, scientific and human adventure. It means committing to meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

The Bordeaux Population Health Center (BPH, U1219 Univ. Bordeaux - Inserm), one of the main centers for population health research in France, comprises 10 teams (~500 people) working on various topics in public health, with 5 transversal areas of excellence: (i) lifelong brain health; (ii) data science (AI), molecular epidemiology, longitudinal cohorts, medico-administrative bases); (iii) infectious diseases and overall health; (iv) aging and resilience; (v) environmental and social determinants of health.

Mission :

The post-doctoral fellow will contribute to the methodological development and implementation of task 1.1.2 of the research project. It will develop geographical indicators of environmental exposure based on satellite and geographic data, conduct spatialized epidemiological analyses aimed at studying the associations between environmental exposures and cancers (with priority given to Central Nervous System tumors, followed by other cancer locations including hematological malignancies, and sarcomas and other solid tumors), and will participate in the validation of methods as well as in the scientific evaluation of results.

As such, your activities are divided into 3 areas :

1/ Development of methods to estimate residential environmental exposures

• Develop spatialized indicators of exposure to atmospheric contaminants (gaseous pollutants and pesticides) based on satellite, environmental, and geographic data.

• Design and implement the processing chains necessary for integrating data from CNES, cancer registries, and other partners.

• Participate in the development of a geographic information system (GIS) for estimating residential exposures and producing geographic databases.

2/ Epidemiological analyses and validation of methods

• Develop and apply spatialized statistical models (Bayesian approaches, geographical analyses) adapted to environmental data.

• Carry out statistical analyses and the spatial distribution of risk between residential environmental exposures and the incidence of cancers, particularly central nervous system tumors, hematological malignancies, sarcomas, then other solid tumors.

• Participate in the validation of exposure estimates by comparison with field measurements in collaboration with project partners

3/ Scientific coordination and development

• Participate in the scientific monitoring of the regional NACRE project on the chemical exposure (task 1.1.2 – residential exposures and cancers) and in exchanges with institutional and academic partners (CNES, IGN, University of Poitiers, CNRS, CEBC). Participate in scientific reporting and feedback within the project consortium (NACRE).

• Contribute to the production of project deliverables and the development of research databases.

• Promote the work by writing scientific articles, reports, and communications at national and international conferences.
