Offer Description
The aim of this Chair will be to promote advanced developments in the field of biomedical imaging, covering instrumentation, image acquisition, reconstruction, analysis and modelling, in order to develop quantitative, sensitive, specific and validated biomarkers of physiologic and pathologic processses.
Closely linked to health, this theme is in line with the major societal challenges prioritised in the CNRS's Contrat-Objectifs-Performances, as well as the priority themes on living organisms, with advances that will be the source of innovative solutions for the early diagnosis and personalised treatment of diseases and the use of mathematics to model living organisms. This theme is also in line with the strategy of universities, which are placing imaging at the heart of their priorities.
The three target laboratories, which have different geographical origins, are major national and international players in the field of imaging at the interface of research and clinical applications.
The Biomedical Multimodal Imaging Laboratory Paris Saclay (BioMaps), UMR 9011 on the Paris-Saclay site, develops research into the design of methods, instruments and agents for different imaging modalities, and their transfer to clinical applications in neurology and cancerology.
Research at the CREATIS (UMR 5220) health image acquisition and processing research center at the University of Lyon falls into the field of health technologies and aims to contribute to predictive and personalized medicine through imaging. Its interdisciplinary research associates experts in image processing and analysis, computer science, physics, instrumentation and radiology. Ischemic heart disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer, stroke are among the pathologies studied.
The Centre de Résonance Magnétique Biologique et Médicale (CRMBM), UMR 7339 on the Aix-Marseille site, specialized in translational research in medical imaging, develops and applies NMR instruments and methods for morphological, metabolic and functional exploration of the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and musculoskeletal system in animals and humans.
These 3 laboratories are part of the France Life Imaging infrastructure, part of the French government's investment program for the future since 2011 and are the pilot laboratories for the infrastructure's respective regional hubs.
Imaging today offers major exploration tools in biomedical research, capable of providing multiparametric information to improve diagnosis, therapy monitoring and understanding of pathologies. The combination of information can be based on one or more imaging modalities, and may also include other parameters such as electrophysiological signals. The multiparametric aspect generates morphological, structural, functional and metabolic information of interest for the central nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the digestive system or the musculoskeletal system, in a healthy or pathological context, but also in cancerology. In this context, the aim of this Chair will be to reinforce the strengths of expert biomedical imaging laboratories (BIOMAPS, CRMBM, CREATIS) in order to promote advanced developments in this field. These developments may concern instrumentation image acquisition, reconstruction or analysis, and involving modeling to identify biomarkers of physiological and pathological processes.
The CNRS Chair will be deployed in pedagogical partnership with partner universities, to reinforce teaching in biomedical imaging at these different universities. Thematic schools will also be organized.
The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.
The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.
The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
