Associate professor (non tenure track) / Post-doctoral researcher in electrical engineering

LUT Department of Electrical Engineering is seeking an associate professor (non-tenure track) / post-doctoral researcher to join its developing organisation. 

The position emphasises teaching. The final job title will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. 

Education and research at LUT Electrical Engineering cover the conversion, use and transmission of electric energy, the control of electric systems and electricity market. Our operations aims at sustainable development, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

The duties include both research and undergraduate education in a range of contact and remote teaching environments. The teaching takes place on both of the university’s campuses in Lappeenranta and Lahti as well as online. 

The selected candidate will have teaching duties on several courses offered in international Bachelor’s programmes at LUT Electrical Engineering and will also participate in research in electrical engineering. Teaching duties may be related to such subjects as electronics, measurement and control systems, digital design, and embedded systems. Teaching includes both theory and project work courses. This position will be based in Lappeenranta, but travel to the Lahti campus could be expected. 

In research work, the applicant must display interest and skills in at least one of the department’s key fields: electricity markets, smart grids, renewable energy generation and energy storage, electric drives, control and automation, and applied electronics.

Successful performance requires good English skills and the ability to teach in English. 

Associate professor (non- tenure track)

An associate professor (non-tenure track) is required to have a doctoral degree, the pedagogical competences and teaching skills necessary for the position, proof of high-level research work and publications, and the ability to lead a research group and raise research funding. 

The employment relationship is fixed-term for four years with a six-month trial period. The salary is determined according to the salary system for university teaching and research personnel. The typical gross starting salary for an associate professor (non-tenure track) is approximately 53 700–61 900 euros a year (gross income including a holiday bonus) depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate and the responsibilities agreed on.

Post-doctoral researcher

A post-doctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree, the ability for independent scientific work, and teaching skills needed in the performance of the duties. 

The employment contract of a post-doctoral researcher is fixed-term (1+3 years) with a six-month trial period. The salary is determined according to the salary system for university teaching and research personnel. The typical annual salary range of post-doctoral researchers is approximately 45 600–54 000 euros (gross income including a holiday bonus) depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

The work would ideally start on 1August 2022, but the start date is negotiable.
