Job Description

At The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (DTU Biosustain), located on the Technical University of Denmark’s main campus near Copenhagen (Kongens Lyngby), we develop the next generation of biosustainable technologies using synthetic biology techniques with state-of-the-art equipment and top-class scientists from all over the world. We aim to achieve the goal of a sustainable future by creating novel paths to chemicals, materials, pharmaceuticals, and food using microbial cells. We are searching for an experienced bioinformatics professional who will contribute to the development of bioinformatics databases and analytics platforms to be leveraged in designing strains for sustainable bio-based production of valuable compounds. The job: Build microbial strain design tools for large-scale omics analysis and more
The DTU Biosustain’s Biofoundry is an organization dedicated to the design, construction, testing, and learning of synthetic biological systems. You will join the Biofoundry’s Reconstruction Team, a team focused on maximizing the availability of biological information on our organisms of interest through the processing of very large-scale sets of omics data, the development of databases and analytics platforms, and the development of models. 

As a Senior Staff Bioinformatics Scientist, your primary tasks will include:

  • Group leadership
  • Collaboration with internal and external teams
  • Laboratory management
  • Mentorship and supervision
  • Publication, dissemination, and outreach
  • Fundraising

Our expectations of you:  PhD in Bioinformatics with a proven track record of publications, leadership, and fundraising success, along with strong professional, communication, and collaborative skills
We are looking for an independent and driven individual who prioritizes quality, clarity, impact, innovation, and constructive collaboration. We also expect this individual to have the professional and organizational skills necessary to manage, contribute to, and communicate progress for multiple parallel projects. Additionally, your CV should demonstrate some of the following:

  • Experience in bioinformatics and strain design
  • Software engineering experience
  • Experience in leading professional teams and projects
  • Experience in data processing, analysis, and interpretation
  • Excellent written and spoken English, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing laboratory resources, including budgeting and overseeing equipment and supplies

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
