Professor (or associate professor) in clinical nursing and clinical nurse specialist (combined position)

A full-time combined position as professor (25% time) and as clinical nursespecialist(25 % time) in combination with a position as senior lecturer (docent) (50 % time primarily for research with expected teaching involvement) is vacant at the Department of Regional Health Research , Faculty of Health Sciences , University of Southern Denmark (SDU) at a clinical department in The Region of Zealand   and at The University College Absalon respectively.

The position is set for a 5-year period with the possibility of extension. 

The background for the position is an extraordinary priority in Region Zealand that wishes to promote and develop nursing research culture from bachelor to professor level. Therefore, additional funding will be provided to administrative support, a 50% position at postdoctoral level as well as one year salary to a coming Ph.D. student connected to the program. 

The academic position at SDU 

The professor will be appointed at the Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be within clinical nursing, and focus areas could include, yet are not limited to,care for the patient with multiple diagnosis, palliative care, and care for the vulnerable patient. Trans-sectional research and collaboration will be expected. 

Areas of responsibility 

The professor will be responsible for creating an exemplary research program addressing clinical issues, building competencies and complete and further develop the research on a highly international level. The professor will also be responsible for developing new strategies for collaboration with other key stakeholders within the area of clinical nursing. 

Additionally, the professor will be expected to teach and mentor post-docs, PhD-students, and undergraduate students, as well as to maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Participation in assessment work will be part of the position. Moreover, profiling this research area in the public eye will be an important task.

Research activity, network, and collaboration 

The professor will be expected to increase research activity at the research unit and to expand collaboration with other researchers at hospitals in the Region of Zealand, at University College Absalon, at SDU, in the rest of Denmark and abroad.  

The clinical position in the Region of Zealand

The clinical part will include appointment as clinical nurse specialist, senior nursing researcher or research leader at a clinical department in the Region of Zealand. The specific place of work will be agreed upon in connection with appointment.    

The position as senior lecturer (docent) at the University College Absalon 

The senior lecturer (docent) will be expected to develop research and teaching activities at the Centre for Nursing at the University College Absalon . This includes increasing and connecting the applied research activities at the clinical research unit and at the University College Absalon as well as the collaboration with SDU and other research institutions in Denmark and abroad. 

Qualifications 

The successful applicant has a PhD or equivalent post-graduate research qualification and must be qualified as a clinical nurse. Additionally, the applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within the field of clinical nursing. The preferred candidate has demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within this area, is able to motivate, supervise and has proven both research management skills and good interpersonal skills.  

The applicant must have qualifications equaling to a professor level. If no candidate at a professor level is available, an associate professor expecting to acquire the desired qualifications within a period of maximum 2 years may be considered for this position. 

Additionally, the applicant must have qualifications equaling to the university college senior lecturer (docent) level (Ministerial order on Job Structure for Lectures, section 4)   

Please note that the assessment of the applications for the professorship or associate professorship will take place first. Only applicants qualified for the professorship/associate professorship will be assessed for the senior lecturer (docent) part of the position. 

In order to be considered for this combined position, a positive assessment as professor/associate professor AND as senior lecturer (docent) is required.

Danish language skills are required, as the combined position involves patient care as well as teaching in Danish.

The professor will refer to the Chief Nurse at the clinical department at a hospital in the Region of Zealand in matters concerning the part of the job in clinical practice, and to the Head of the Department of Regional Health Research, Rikke Leth-Larsen, in matters regarding the professorship. At the University College Absalon the senior lecturer (docent) will refer to the Head of Research at the Center for Nursing Jesper Graubæk Andresen.

The successful applicant for the professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
