We welcome applications from candidates with a research profile that can lead the further development of our strengths in historical research before c. 1800 AD. Empirically, applicants are expected to focus predominantly on European societies, yet applicants with other and additional focus points are also encouraged to apply. We welcome in particular, applications from candidates that can complement, extend and further vitalize our current research on historical topics related to conflict, coercion, authority, heritage, sustainability, and knowledge in history.

The position as professor is a permanent position with obligation to research, teaching and publication/academic dissemination.

Qualifications and expectations
We expect successful applicants to document a solid and recognized position within their particular areas of research expertise and academic qualifications at the highest international level. This includes a sustained production of original academic output published at the highest international level. Candidates for full professorships in history must also have experience acquiring external grants, managing and leading collaborative research projects, and supervising Ph.D. students and/ or other early career scholars.

Furthermore, full professors at the Department of Politics& Society are expected to take responsibility for the strategic development of their respective research groups and the department in general. This includes, for example, taking responsibility for achieving strategic objectives such as increasing the volume of high-end international publications, strengthening international collaboration, and attracting research funds from national and international sources of funding.

The Department of Politics& Society seek to strengthen its research and teaching based on social data science methods.  Documented qualifications in working with digital data and data science methods are considered an advantage, although not a requirement. Courses are mainly taught in Danish. However, they can be taught in English at the BA and MA level. Applicants with little or no language proficiency in Danish are expected to be able to read and understand Danish and/or another Scandinavian language within three years from taking up the position. The department offers a reduced teaching load in exchange for documented efforts to learn Danish.

  • Complete publication list, marking the attached publications, to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment. A maximum of ten publications may be attached.
  • In case the applicant attaches publications elaborated ind collaboration with co-authors, a co-author statement must be enclosed, specifying the applicant's contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors. Template co-author declaration .

  • Copies of relevant diplomas(Master of Arts/Master of Science and PhD).

Assessment
All candidates will be assessed by an assessment committee. Applicants may subsequently be summoned to an interview and/or trial lecture.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select candidates for assessment. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not. The selected applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will have the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that applies to the applicant in question. When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Wages and employment

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
