Professor in Sustainable pig production

Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a position as professor in Sustainable pig production from 1 September 2023 or soon thereafter.

The position

With the professorship in Sustainable pig production, the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (ANIVET) dedicates itself to the important agenda of developing a future sustainable and economically viable pig production with low environmental and climate impact.

The responsibilities will include research, supervision and teaching, as well as service to the authorities within monogastric animal nutrition, with particular focus on pigs. The aim of the state-of-the-art research includes e.g. studies in feed evaluation, optimal feeding, as well as nutrition and production efficiency in pigs. To achieve higher productivity and sustainability, as well as better health and welfare within pig production, the research should focus on optimization of feeding and nutrient supply, but also on development of alternative feedstuffs to mitigate environmental influence and climate changes.

A specific task will also be to develop nutrition of production insects as a new research field within the department.

The professor will be responsible for attracting external funding, collaboration and knowledge exchange with industry and society, participate in providing research-based consultancy to authorities and be responsible for teaching and supervising students at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, as well as young researchers and technical staff.

Qualifications for a full professor level at Aarhus University include a very strong academic background, documented successful grant writing and experience with project management, industrial/public sector collaboration as well as teaching and

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation .

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
