Professor in Robotics and Automation

DTU Electrical Engineering at Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Robotics and Automation and as Head of Section Robotics and Automation.

You will be leading the Section Robotics and Automation, and you will collaborate closely with with the Section Autonomous Systems, which also will be established based on the existing Section Automation and Control. The Section is in the process of extending the research and teaching facilities in robotics and automation, making the Section among the world elite in the field of robotics and automation.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You must develop the research field of robotics and automation based on the combination of novel technologies (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc.) and more classical methodologies.

Emphasis is on robotics (including systems engineering) and novel use of automation. The application field is robotics and automation systems in traditional domains such as industrial plant, but also extending to novel domains (including heath systems, agriculture, food production, and mobility).

The subject area is expected to address several of the following research challenges:

• Grasping and tactile manipulation
• Robot vision in challenging natural environments
• Force-controlled and compliant robots
• Automation and control of industrial plants
• Combination of mobile platforms (sea, air, land) and robot arms

The research can be based on advanced modelling combined with experimental validation in our world-class laboratory facilities.

The tasks include research, teaching, and innovation combined with leadership within these areas, and we expect the candidate to further strengthen our internationally recognized research activitiers as well as expand academic and industrial collaboration. Entrepreneurship and project management are integrated aspects of the position.

You must engage in and upgrade existing educations at all levels within robotics and automation. You should thus take a leading role in identifying new educational needs and assume responsibility for contact to relevant academia, industries, and collaboration partners—both national and international—as part of this activity.

You are expected to play a central role in fundraising.

You are expected to take a lead role in teaching at the BEng, BSc, MSc, and PhD levels. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTU can provide Danish language courses.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
