Offer Description
iNANO invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position with the DISORDER Group.

About the Group
The DISORDER Group, which Assistant Professor Espen Drath Bøjesen heads, focuses on investigating materials at the border between order and disorder. Our team uses state-of-the-art electron microscopy and X-ray scattering techniques to uncover the hidden mysteries within this enigmatic field.

Position Details

  • Title: Postdoctoral Researcher
  • Duration: 24 months
  • Start date: 15-06-2024 or as soon as possible thereafter
  • Project: Development and use of a novel time-resolved electron microscopy technique for studies of spatiotemporal dynamics in inorganic materials
  • Objective: To enable studies of spatiotemporal variations in structural dynamics at the nanoscale.
  • Funding: Supported by a Villum Experiment Grant from the Villum Foundation.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the position should have the following qualifications:

  •  A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or Nanoscience from a recognized university.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality research results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students and academic staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in English to effectively communicate scientific information.
  • Ability to conduct independent research or work under limited supervision and in collaboration with other academic staff.

Demonstrated proficiency in advanced (scanning) transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, or X-ray imaging as well as Python programming (or equivalent) is required.

Demonstrated high-level expertise in any of the following areas will count favorably toward the assessment:

  • Four-Dimensional Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy
  • Time-resolved studies of structural changes
  • Crystallography
  • Converged Electron Beam Diffraction
  • Electron scattering theory
  • Competency in processing and analyzing time-resolved data and handling large datasets.
  • Relaxor Ferroelectricity
  • Electrocaloric Cooling
  • In situ or in operando (S)TEM studies of inorganic materials at non-ambient conditions

What we offer:
Join our team and enjoy a young, dynamic, pleasant work environment fostering collaboration and innovation. We work at the forefront of method development with 4D-STEM.
You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including a Talos 200FX equipped with a 512x512 Merlin detector from Quantum Detectors. This ensures that you have access to the latest detector technology.
Additionally, you will have opportunities to travel to world-leading electron microscopy facilities to collaborate and further your research. You will be allowed to teach and supervise to the degree you are interested in, thereby building these skills. In modern-day academia, such skills are important assets on the CV of a junior researcher.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Letter of reference

If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
