Postdoctoral position in sociology

The Post.doc. position is part of a Nordforsk-funded research project entitled Education of Refugees and Asylum Seekers during and post the Pandemic in Nordic Countries. Through four work packages, the project examines 1) official strategies in the four countries, 2) children's, young people's and parents' experiences with education during the pandemic, 3) experiences, practices and strategies from various frontline professionals in providing institutional and social support to refugee children and young people, and 4) which potential action strategies based on the experiences from the empirical studies 1-3. The post doc. position is part of work package 3, entailing conducting qualitative individual interviews and focus group interviews with frontline professionals in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In addition, the post.doc. candidate will assist in the Danish studies of work package 1, 2 and 4. The position involves teaching and guidance on the Master's degree in Social Work.

A post doctoral position
The position will be heavily weighted in favour of research. In addition, there will be a certain amount of teaching activities. The performance of other duties may be required to a limited extent. The university determines the exact weighting of the various responsibilities. The weighting of the various responsibilities may vary over time.

Appointment as a postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University. Appointment at postdoc level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however max. six years at Assistant Professor level- which includes Postdoc- at the same institution.

Qualification requirements

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. 

Skills and experiences with qualitative methods, including interviews of vulnerable children and young people, possibly among asylum seekers and refugees, as well as knowledge of the Master's degree in Social Work(or a related education) is an advantage. Danish language skills is a requirement.

Assessment
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before the shortlisting takes place, all applicants will get the opportunity to comment on the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they are selected for assessment or not.

All assessed applicants will get the opportunity to comment on their own assessment, and may be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Wages and employment

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
