Job Description

We are looking for a skilled specialist with strong hands-on experience in development and validation of diagnostic assays for point-of-care technology (POCT). We seek someone with excellent organisational skills who can independently initiate and coordinate new projects while maintaining an overview and ensuring high quality in the daily work.
Centre for Diagnostics (CfD)
CfD is dedicated to the development of new and innovative diagnostic assays in collaboration with DTU institutes, hospitals, universities, and the biotech industry. Our assays are used for the detection of biomarkers, pathogens, or pathogen-induced antibodies in laboratory-based platforms and POCT devices. In parallel, CfD operates a commercial diagnostic business primarily centred on PCR and serological diagnostics (Olink, MSD, Luminex and ELISA), serving hospitals, universities, and the industry.
The position
As a CfD assay developer, you will spend time in the lab developing new point-of-care methods in project collaborations with our stakeholders. You will be responsible for a share of work packages and projects including securing contracts and research funding and finalizing all necessary project documentation. You will also report and communicate with external stakeholders. Moreover, we expect you to stay up to date on publications within your field and gain knowledge on cutting edge methods, whilst sharing your knowledge and ideas with the assay developers in the group.
The department is accredited and works in accordance with the ISO 17025 standard, so quality assurance is an important element of the job.
You will be based in the CfD group that currently consists of three assay developers, two lab technicians, two molecular biologists and a business developer, as well as four interns. We aim to expand our group in parallel with our portfolio of projects.
 Our expectations
We expect you to have the following background and competencies:

  • A Ph.D. in immunology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, or similar.
  • Several years’ experience with diagnostic assay development, assay optimization and implementation.
  • Experience with running ELISA, MSD, Luminex or similar immune-based assays as well as RT-qPCR and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Solid hands-on experience with POCT methods for protein biomarker detection i.e. LFAs or other microfluidic devices.
  • A deep understanding of protein-ligand interactions and experience with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology is considered an asset.
  • You are efficient and solution oriented
  • A proficiency in statistical analysis
  • A proven track record of successful grant applications and research publications.
  • Experience with project or work package management.
  • A strong mindset for working with quality assurance.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

Competencies considered an advantage:

  • Experience with bioinformatics, especially programming, Linux, Python and R.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements for diagnostic devices.
  • Experience with coordinating the work of laboratory technicians.
  • A sense of humor and positive attitude, contributing to an enjoyable working environment.
