Offer Description
Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a postdoc position in maritime strategy and digitalization at the Department of Strategy and Innovation. The expected starting date is 1 September 2024.
Research within the Department of Strategy and Innovation is focused on Strategy, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and International business. The four areas are the pillars the department rests on in its teaching and research activities. The number of staff in the department is approximately 80. This includes about 45 faculty members (professors, associate professors, tenure track assistant professors), 8 administrative staff members, and 30 members of staff who are hired on temporary contracts as research assistants, postdocs or PhD students.
The department’s ambition is to host an internationally recognised environment for research and teaching in strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business. The theoretical foundation for research in these areas is eclectic, combining strategy and/or internationalization theory with insights from economics, sociology, psychology, and economic geography. Methodologically, the department places considerable emphasis on the solid application of empirical methods, featuring qualitative interview studies, surveys, register data, or experiments.
The postdoc position is time-limited to 1 year and connected to the research activities of Associate Professor Martin Jes Iversen on strategy and maritime digitalization.
The aim of the project is to analyze maritime digitalization regarded from a strategic and commercial perspective. Digitalization concerns the transfer of information in bits rather than through traditional analogue technologies. It follows that the economic relevance of digitalization as a research field concerns the shifts in costs, meaning that costs of information search, replication, transportation, tracking and verification have decreased and in some cases even reached zero (Goldfarb & Tucker, 2019). The project is closely connected to existing research in maritime digitalization. Rather than focusing on maritime applications of specific new digital technologies such as AI, IoT or big data this project is built upon the fundamental assumption that digitalization can be understood as a force of integration (not to be regarded as centralization) powered by shifts in costs. We will investigate how business strategies in the maritime sector have been altered through the digital driven integration in four dimensions:
The analysis will mostly rely on empirical methods, including the analysis of specific cases relevant to each of the four integration dimensions. The research will consist of a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods.
The ideal candidate for the position will be a recent PhD graduate with a deep knowledge on maritime economics. The postdoc position is limited to one year (1) year (100% research), and the successful candidate should ideally possess research experiences for instance author or co-author of international peer-reviewed high-quality articles within maritime studies.
The postdoc will work closely with associate professor Martin Jes Iversen, who will supervise the research.
For further information about the research projects, please contact Associate Professor Martin Jes Iversen: [email protected] . Information about the department is available at www.cbs.dk/si .
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organization. A personal research budget for travel and conference participation will be available. Information about CBS as a workplace is available at www.cbs.dk/en/about-cbs/jobs-cbs .
