Job Description

A one-year postdoc position in the field of microbial protein synthesis from greenhouse gases and residual nitrogen from water is available at DTU Sustain within the project funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe (Joint Undertaking) Project, with an expected start date of April1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies in environmental biotechnology (e.g., microbial electrochemistry and electro-fermentation) for carbon capture, wastewater resource recovery and bioproduction. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. The postdoc’s duties include research within the microbial electrosynthesis system for protein-rich bacteria biomass synthesis for the development of the novel carbon-to-protein concept, scientific dissemination of the results in scientific articles and at conferences, as well as teaching.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), in either microbiology, protein engineering, environmental engineering or microbial electrochemistry, and documented prior experience with either biosynthesis or electrochemistry, or both.

The ideal candidate is a good communicator in both written and spoken English, is independent, and enjoys collaborating with others from diverse backgrounds as well as supporting more junior group members.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The postdoctoral position is full-time and fully funded for one year. The expected start date is April 1, 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
