Job Description

The purpose of this postdoc is to contribute to evaluation of surveillance activities, especially within the field of antimicrobial resistance and usage but also of activities that help the green deal in Europe to move forward.

The research and innovation activities will be done within the field of surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and usage as well as on the use of new technology in food inspection and production incl. use of side streams and novel food. Findings could hence be used in decision-processes about how the surveillance and legislation for food and feed should be in the future. 

The position is at the National Food Institute in the research group of Foodborne Pathogens and Epidemiology. The research group produces the annual report of the monitoring of antimicrobial resistance and use in animals and food (DANMAP) and provides advisory to the Danish Food and Veterinary Administration related to antimicrobial resistance and the surveillance and interventions for control of zoonotic diseases in Denmark.

Responsibilities and qualifications
It is expected that you:

  • Contribute to development of study plans,
  • Contribute to collecting of samples for studies,
  • Contribute to system thinking and analyses – and are creative and able to listen and work closely together with other people, also cross-sectorial,
  • Conduct epidemiological studies and risk analysis,
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of Master students,
  • Contribute to the core activities of the group, also those that are not directly related to research.                                            

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). 

  • It’s a strong advantage if you are a diplomat or resident in European College of Veterinary Public Health,
  • It’s a strong advantage if you have experience in working with antimicrobial resistance and application of new technologies in surveillance, 
  • It’s an advantage if you have a veterinary or food science background,
  • It’s a requirement to be able to work with R programming language on an advance level,
  • It’s expected that you are social and can interact and co-operate with the other group members as well as with the European researchers within the network that you will join,
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement. It’s an advantage if you speak and write Danish on a high level.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years and starting date is expected 1 May 2024.

The Research Group for Foodborne Pathogens and Epidemiology forms part of the national monitoring, control, and prevention of foodborne infections and antimicrobial resistance. The group analyses and interprets data, and conducts risk assessments aimed at mapping sources and routes of infection, quantifying the disease burden, and evaluating interventions.
