Job Description

Would you like to work to improve the understanding and quantification of how human activities in general and fisheries in particular interact with sensitive species and their habitat? DTU Aqua is looking for a post doc to work with complex fisheries data to estimate their influence on non-target species. The work will involve simulating complex socioecological systems to understand how management interventions may be successful to achieve sustainability goals for fisheries as well as other sectors of the blue economy. The successful candidate will integrate in a vibrant multi-disciplinary team and will see their work have the scope to have tangible impact on the way European marine living resources are managed both at a large scale as well as within local coastal communities across Europe.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with strong social as well as quantitative and analytical skills, preferably with a background in fisheries management. You will be required to program in a range of standard languages (eg, R, Python), implement statistical associative models (eg, GLMM), as well as experienced in simulation development (eg, multi-agent based models). You will also work with stakeholder engagement both to elicit expert opinions as well as to work in a collaborative setting with a wide range of stakeholders in a collegiate manner.

In the assessment of candidates, particular consideration will be given to: 

  • Experience in statistical and simulation modeling,
  • Demonstrated research abilities as shown by publications in scientific journals,
  • Prior knowledge about fisheries and how they are managed, 
  • The ability to handle large datasets and experience with European fisheries monitoring data
  • Ability to work conscientiously, independently as well as in teams,
  • Genuine interest in stakeholder engagement, 
  • The ability to communicate at all levels in English.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in natural science involving analysis of large data sets.

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2.5 years, starting July 2024. The position is a full-time position.
