Postdoc in Microbiome analysis and Data integration

We are looking for an ambitious and proactive Postdoc to work on the research project Ablacto+, which is focusing on development of an innovative low-cost treatment option that aims at stabilizing the healthy gut microbiome of piglets at risk of developing post-weaning diarrhea. The project is supported by the GUDP program from the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food, and is a collaboration between Professor Susanne Brix Pedersen’s research group, Disease Systems Immunology, at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the biotech company, Bactolife ApS. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in analysis of the microbiome and data integration.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your tasks will be:

  • Sample processing and metagenomics sequencing (16S rRNA and shotgun) of intestinal samples collected from piglets undergoing treatment with Ablacto+
  • Analysis of microbiome data and integration of data with other variables
  • Writing of scientific papers on the project outcomes
  • Take part in scientific dissemination and collaboration activities related to the project, the research group, and Bactolife

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in microbiology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or similar

Furthermore you

  • Have a strong background in microbiome research, including in-depth knowledge into metagenomics sequencing and data integration.
  • Have experience in programming (R, python or similar) and UNIX based systems
  • Have proven track record in scientific publication and communication
  • Possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Possess independence, initiative, reliability, and drive

The successful candidate should thrive in a highly ambitious research environment, and will have demonstrated the ability to work independently and a documented track record of publication in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals. Good communication skills in both written and spoken English are a requirement.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 14 months.
