Job Description

At DTU Bioengineering, you are going to make new breakthroughs at one of the world top three universities in biotechnology. This project is funded by an Innoexplorer grant, funded by Innovation Fund Denmark.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of an interdisciplinary research team of highly skilled scientists. Your overall focus will be to analyze and characterize lead Streptomyces strains for bioactive metabolites.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Optimization of antifungal polyketide production in Streptomyces
  • Scale-up fermentation and isolation of antifungal leads
  • Support in biosynthesis and pharmacokinetics studies
  • Support in animal assay

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). The PhD should preferably be in the fields of natural products discovery, biotechnology, bioengineering or similar, and ideally, you should have hands-on experience with working with natural product chemistry and Streptomyces.

You must have:

  • A strong background in natural product chemistry and experience with identification of bioactive metabolites through NMR and MS spectroscopy
  • Very skilled in natural product purification using different chromatography skills in LC, Sephadex LH-20, et al.
  • Experience in microbial fermentation
  • Good knowledge in pharmacology
  • Experience in antifungal assay will be an advantage
  • Experience in genome-mining and Streptomyces engineering will be an advantage
  • Experience in antibiotic development will be advantage
  • Good communication skills in written and spoken English

In addition, you have:

  • Mindset in innovation and drug development
  • Excellent track-record of scientific achievements (publications, patents, awards, grants, conference presentations, etc.)

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is initially for one year. The starting date is April 01. 2024 or upon agreement.
