Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
Job Description

We are seeking a methodical and dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join our team focused on developing our in-house membranes gas separation applications. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on projects related to the design, fabrication, and optimization of membranes for gas separation applications related to carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Responsibilities:

  • Membrane Design and Fabrication: Use your extensive knowledge of membranes to contribute to the design and fabrication of novel flat-sheet membranes for gas separation, with a focus on improving selectivity and efficiency.
  • Experimental Work: Conduct experimental work to characterize and evaluate the performance of membrane materials, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and techniques such as gas chromatography, Raman, SEM, XPS, FTIR, TGA, and surface free energy measurements.
  • Material selection and sourcing: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source the best membrane materials and equipment for the project.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data to draw meaningful conclusions and contribute to the development of predictive models for membrane gas separations.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to integrate findings into broader research goals and contribute to project advancements.
  • Literature Review: Stay abreast of the latest developments in membrane science and research findings for internal dissemination.
  • Actively contribute to our pilot-scale demonstration project to ensure the successful implementation of our lab-scale optimized process at scale.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field: Demonstrated expertise in membrane separations through academic achievements and research projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of membrane process: demonstrable knowledge in industrial membrane separation processes, in particular of polymeric and carbon-based flat sheet membranes and the processes they are used in.
  • Experimental Skills:
    • Hands-on experience in membrane fabrication, characterization, and performance evaluation using relevant experimental techniques.
    • Experience in the construction and operation of a lab-scale gas separation setup.
    • Demonstrable hands-on experience with the installation, maintenance, and/or operation of gas chromatography (GC) equipment (microGC or GC) – as well as subsequent data analysis – is a requirement.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to use analytical tools and software for scientific research. A detail-oriented problem solver with a commitment to systematic experimentation.
  • Team Player: Strong collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented research environment.
  • Due to the start of the project, we need candidates who can start as soon as possible.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Industrial Experience: Experience in the manufacture of flat sheet membranes in an industrial setting, as well as the integration of these membranes into spiral wound modules is a plus.
  • Process Modeling: Experience in computational modeling related to membrane gas separations, including simulation and optimization techniques, and proficiency in the use of process modelling software such as Aspen Plus/HYSYS is a plus.
  • Publication Record: A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals related to membrane science and gas separation, and in particular CO2 separations, is a plus.

We offer

  • Potential for joining a fast-paced future spin-off as an early team member.
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities, resources, and technological infrastructure
  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary work setting, fostering meaningful partnerships with international experts.
  • Continuous learning and professional development opportunities to expand your knowledge and expertise.
  • Key role in driving the development and implementation of advanced technologies, specifically in the field of carbon capture and storage (CCS).
  • Active contribution towards building a sustainable future and addressing global challenges.
  • Inclusive and diverse organizational culture, promoting equal opportunities and embracing individual differences.
  • Flexible working hours and a supportive work-life balance.
  • Substantial influence in shaping strategic decisions and project direction.
