Job Description

We are looking for an ambitious postdoc with interest in the intestinal microbiota and potentially harmful chemicals from foods for a 1.5 years postdoc position. 

You will be part of our internationally renowned Research group for Gut, Microbes, and Health at DTU National Food institute. We offer a dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities. The postdoctoral project is supported by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, and will involve interaction with both microbiologists, toxicologists, and chemists. 

The overall aim of the project is to obtain a better understanding of the effect of gut microbial composition and activity on the intestinal uptake and metabolism of potentially harmful chemicals such as PFOS and toxic trace metals.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be working independently with the postdoctoral project in close collaboration with our research group, as well as with other research groups at DTU National Food Institute. You will be involved in teaching of Bachelor, Master, and PhD projects in our group, and will also be expected to contribute to other tasks at the department.

We expect that you have a solid background in microbiology and chemistry, as well as experience with gut microbiome analysis. You need to be ambitious, highly motivated, capable of working independently, and have good skills within written and spoken English.

The new colleague we are seeking has ideally worked with microbial cultivation studies, sequence-based analysis of bacterial communities, and/or characterization of chemical compounds e.g. by LC-MS/MS. 

Required skills:

  • Experience with next generation sequencing of bacterial communities 
  • Experience with experimental microbiology
  • Good knowledge of inorganic chemistry and chemical analysis 
  • Capable of working independently
  • Motivated by both personal and team accomplishments.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position is for 1.5 years. The period of employment begins May 1st 2024 and runs until 31st of December 2025.
