Job Description

At DTU Space, we seek candidates with a strong interest in glaciology and satellite remote sensing for a postdoc position in “improving climate data records of ice sheet topography changes from altimetry”.
Responsibilities and qualifications
You will contribute to providing state-of-the-art climate data records of ice sheet topography changes. This will advance our understanding of how one of the most sensitive parts of our planet, the ice sheets, responds to climate change. This work is essential for establishing a reference for several stakeholders, such as people modelling ice sheets as well as policymakers. The postdoc is fully funded through several externally funded projects focused on the ice sheets' essential climate variables. You will be part of the Cryosphere research group that is a part of the Geodesy and Earth Observation Department at DTU Space. In the cryosphere research group, are currently 12 researchers studying different areas of the cryosphere.
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competencies utilizing satellite altimetry from various ESA and NASA missions to improve our current monitoring capabilities of ice sheet topography changes (climate data records). You will work with DTU Space colleagues and national and international academic and industry partners. Your primary tasks will be to:
- Develop and apply new methods for the analysis of satellite altimetry.
- Generate and publish new climate data records of ice sheet topography.
- Assist with project management.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and be able to work as part of a team to achieve ambitious goals.
- Teach and co-supervise BSc and MSc student projects.
- Publish the new findings in the international peer-reviewed literature.
- Potentially participate in Arctic fieldwork.
- Possible contribute to scientific advice towards the authorities.
- Present your research at international conferences and participate in relevant project meetings.
We expect that you have:
- Documented experience in working satellite altimetry for studying ice sheets.
- Good expertise in programming in Python.
- Expertise in SARIn processing for CryoSat-2 will be an advantage
- Experience with ESA projects will be an advantage.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 3 years.
