Postdoc in forensic genetics

Updated: 27 days ago
Deadline: 31 Mar 2024

The Section of Forensic Genetics, Department of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark are offering a four-year postdoctoral research opportunity combining forensic genetics and bioinformatics.

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic postdoc to commence on 1 May 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project description
The project will use genetic data from internal data resources, UK biobank, and international disease registries with focus on forensically relevant topics, including Sudden Unexplained Death (SUD). A focus will be on a newly created Andersen-Tawil syndrome (ATS) registry within the ERN GUARD-Heart (Gateway to Uncommon And Rare Diseases of the HEART). The ATS registry was created to collect and examine clinical and genetic data from ATS patients. Due to the extremely low prevalence of ATS, it is essential to collaborate across institutions and countries to enable investigations of larger cohorts of patients.

Your job
Your primary responsibilities will encompass:

  • Formulating data processing pipelines for genetic variant calling with focus on forensically relevant phenotypes, including SUD and ATS.
  • Supporting our research group in bioinformatics.
  • Collaborating with a dynamic team of forensic genetics researchers, computer scientists, and clinicians.

Profile

Essential experience and skills:

  • A Ph.D. in Science
  • Proficiency in programming, with notable skills in pertinent languages and frameworks (e.g., Python and R).
  • Profound competence in forensic genetics is highly advantageous.
  • A strong proclivity for interdisciplinary research and a readiness to collaborate across diverse scientific domains.
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to work in teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of research publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as presentations at conferences.
  • Excellent English skills; written and spoken.
