Postdoc in Environmental Soil Physics

The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University, Denmark, is offering a postdoctoral position in environmental soil physics, starting 01-02-2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be available for a 3-year period.

You will be part of a research environment focusing on sustaining a healthy, functional soil while maintaining biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and preserving the groundwater resources. You will be contributing to specifically the area of understanding soil physico-chemical and hydrological processes as well as achieving quantitative insight into the spatial distribution of soil characteristics on a local, regional and national scale. The main focus of your position will particularly be on soil structural properties, soil water retention, greenhouse gas emissions, soil microbial biology, soil mapping, and modeling soil processes. You will work experimentally with already established experiments including working experimentally in both laboratory and field. The fieldwork will include work in South Greenland.

We expect that you will be an important part of the research environment and that you will contribute positively to the social working environment. We also expect that you will take part in our teaching activities and that you will report research results in high-impact scientific journals. Involvement in policy support for the Danish government can be expected.

Your profile
We are searching for a highly motivated candidate who has

• A PhD in soil physics, environmental engineering, agronomy, geology, or similar or similar
• Collaborative skills
• A fondness of taking the initiative and the motivation to pursue a scientific career
• Documented experience in scientific writing and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals
• Research experience in some of the areas of environmental soil physics, organic soils, sub-arctic soils, , modeling soil processes, soil mapping and geo-statistics

Further, we will prefer candidates with some of the following qualifications:

• Teaching and supervision experience at the BSc and MSc level
• Interest and experience in developing competitive national and international research applications
• Experience in planning and conducting field-work
• Experience in planning and conducting laboratory work within measurement of soil physico-chemical and microbial properties, soil structure, and soil mineralogy
• Insight into the interplay between microbial diversity, greenhouse gas emissions, and soil processes
• Experience with thermal analysis for soil characterization

Formalities and salary range
Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation .
