Post doc position in marine non-indigenous species and offshore windfarms

We are seeking applicants for a 3-year Post doc in marine biodiversity, to join us at the Department of ECOSCIENCE working within developing methods for monitoring, modelling, and assessing the occurrence, dispersal, and impact of non-indigenous species (NIS) in Danish seas.



Job description

The focus will be on assessment of the potential impact and risk of NIS. The tasks will include:

  • contribution to document the establishment, spread and impact of NIS in Danish seas
  • work primarily with field-based monitoring using both conventional and molecular techniques
  • Investigation of the introduction of NIS using Species Distribution Modelling (SDM) to assess the risk for dispersal via wind farm monopiles as stepping-stones in Danish seas

You will be a part of the marine group that covers research and advisory tasks across the marine environment mainly related to Danish and Arctic waters. These activities will be conducted in close collaboration with the marine biodiversity monitoring group as well as the marine model group at the department as well as external partners. It is expected that you can collaborate broadly with stakeholders such as the Danish EPA and Regional Sea Conventions (OSPAR)

Applicants should hold a PhD in marine ecology, biology, environmental sciences, or similar. We expect that you have:

  • Expert knowledge on NIS, species biology, benthic ecology
  • Expert knowledge on Species Distribution Modelling
  • Very good skills in the use of conventional and molecular methods for monitoring benthic biodiversity
  • Publications in high-ranking journals
  • Good collaboration skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team within marine science
  • Very good knowledge of English (written and oral)
  • Good communication skills (scientific community, the public, stakeholders, and managers)
  • Experience in data analysis and statistical tools
  • Preferable experience with advisory work

The Department of Ecoscience is engaged in research programs and advisory work covering the major biological subdisciplines. We conduct world-class research in the areas of aquatic biology and ecology, Arctic environment and ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation biology and wildlife management. The Department currently employs approximately 275 academic and technical staff, as well as many PhD students.

Expected start date and duration of employment

This is a 3–year position from 1. June 2024 or as soon as possible.

This is a fixed-term position to end on 31 May 2027.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
