Ph.D. Position (100%, 3 years) in Psychology, with a Focus on Employer Images in Job Ads

The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), invites candidates for a Ph.D. position (100%, 36 months). Supported by the Carlsberg Foundation, the chosen candidate will primarily work in a project related to employer images in job advertisements, together with a hired PhD student (at the Department of Computer Sciences), Isabelle Augenstein (Co-PI, Department of Computer Sciences), and Pia Ingold (PI, Department of Psychology) as well as further international collaborators.

The preferred starting date is as soon as possible in 2024, but could also be later in 2024. We thus explicitly also encourage interested master students to apply if they will finish their studies this summer.

Your Responsibilities and Duties
The chosen candidate will be part of a research project investigating employer images in job ads. The project will comprise studies using experiments, as well as analyses of two existing big data sets on job advertisements (one in Danish, one in German) using Natural Language Processing in collaboration with the NLP group at the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Copenhagen (led by Isabelle Augenstein). The chosen candidate will contribute to the project with their expertise, interests, and skills, and is expected to publish scientific articles in international journals as well as to present findings at international conferences. In general, the position is highly research-focused, and funding is available for conducting studies, conference attendances and a research visit such that candidates can start building their international network and their research expertise. For the selected candidate, there will be ample possibilities to influence the project and develop new project ideas within the project frame. In addition, the chosen candidate will also be asked to fulfill other work obligations (typically teaching or supervising) to a small degree in the overall period at the Department of Psychology.

Your Competencies
Applicants should have pursued a master’s degree in psychology or a related field. It is desired, but no precondition that applicants have already gained experiences in one of the following research areas: recruitment, personnel selection, human resource management and topics of diversity in this context. Candidates with strong research interests in these areas or related areas and methodological skills are especially encouraged to apply. It is advantageous if applicants have gained experiences in setting up online experiments, in analyzing big data sets, or in multi-level analyses. It is expected that applicants will publish in internationally recognized scientific journals in English, and that the chosen candidate will contribute continuously with their collaboration skills to the interdisciplinary, international research team. High proficiency in spoken and written English is a requirement. It is not a requirement to speak or understand Danish or German, as the job advertisement texts can be translated.

The research of the department covers a wide range of topics and methodologies and has an international work environment.

Terms of Employment

• In order to be awarded a PhD scholarship the chosen candidates have to enroll as PhD students at the Faculty of Social Sciences, cf. the rules of the Danish Ministerial order No 1039 of 27 August 2013. Most likely, the applicants will be enrolled in the PhD program at the Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen.

• The exact salary depends on the chosen pension scheme and taxation, but can be expected to be around 28,900 DKK (3,700 EURO).
