Job Description

Are you interested in contributing to the enhancement of sustainability and manufacturing quality of 3D-printed continuous fiber composite structures?

If so, the Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Division of Materials and Components invites applicants for a postdoc or research assistant position in the area of sustainable 3D printing of continuous fiber composites (CFCs). 

Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful applicant will be a member of a larger team of university researchers working closely together with a major focus on CFC 3D printing.

The research position aims at advancing the state of the art in the area of sustainable and innovative manufacturing of CFC structures. The main objective of the project is the enhancement of the manufacturing quality of 3D-printed CFC structures through characterization techniques and alternative design solutions.

Your primary responsibilities and tasks will be to:

  • Perform the sensitivity analyses on the process and material parameters, towards quality improvement of 3D printed CFC specimens,
  • Conduct different manufacturing characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), gravimetric tests, etc.
  • Perform image segmentation analysis of the 3D printed CFC specimens using image analysis software such as Avizo,
  • Investigate alternative designs and materials to advance the sustainability of 3D-printed CFC structures,
  • Disseminate the results in peer-reviewed journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Furthermore, strong English communication skills are essential. Applicants should be highly motivated, ambitious, eager to seek and share knowledge, willing, and able to work as part of a team as well as through interdisciplinary collaboration with industrial partners. 

More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

  • Experience in 3D printing of continuous fiber composites,
  • Good/strong knowledge of Design for X methods such as design for manufacturing, design for sustainability, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of biomimetic design, biocomposites, life cycle assessment,
  • Experience in composite manufacturing characterization techniques,
  • Experience in image segmentation analysis tools such as Avizo,
  • Good track record of promotional skills and visual dissemination methods,
  • Experience in data analysis using MATLAB.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. However, a typical agreement for such a position is approximately equivalent to € 65,000 incl. pension (before tax) per year, with six weeks paid annual vacation.

The period of employment is 2 years with a start date of April 1, 2024, and the working location will be DTU Wind, Risø Campus, in Roskilde.

Please note that the position is 80% part-time meaning the salary is adjusted accordingly.
