Job Description
The position is affiliated to the section for Marine Living Resources with main tasks related to the research area Fish Biology (https://www.aqua.dtu.dk/english/research/fish-biology . This research area focuses on the generation of new knowledge on developmental characteristics and physiological requirements of fish throughout their life history, thereby providing insights into the interaction between environment and organisms and their welfare and behaviour. Studies contributes to understanding fish population dynamics and ecology as well as to conservation biology and aquaculture development.
Roles and responsibilities
You will be responsible for organising and maintaining our laboratories, ordering and keeping track of chemicals and consumables, and overviewing safe operating procedures. Laboratory tasks include sample registration and preparation for different analyses, conducting analyses, e.g. histology using different staining techniques and digitisation, molecular analyses including RNA/DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, primer design and qPCR, and assisting in experimental studies of fishes. You will work closely with members of the Fish Biology group as well as other scientists, participating in various research projects that involve skilled laboratory assistance. You will be involved in a hands-on-molecular course at BSc level, the supervision of students, and mentoring other members of the team in laboratory work, safety and waste handling. You will be expected to work with a high degree of precision, maintain detailed records, deliver quality results, and be willing to take initiative.
Skills and competences
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised laboratory technologist or technician with the following qualifications:
- A degree as laboratory technologist (professionsbachelor i laboratorieteknologi), laboratory technician (laborant) or similar accredited qualifications is required.
- At least 2-3 years practical experience with laboratory work.
- Experience with histology and molecular biology techniques
- Proficient in chemicals safely, safe operating procedures and work methods.
- Qualified in documentation of laboratory work in English
- Skilled at working independently and self-motivated.
- Good interpersonal skills including communication and fluently in English; spoken as well as written. Danish is an advantage but not a requirement.

The Section of Marine Living Resources has counts consists of around 45 scientists, and technicians of which around 10 is active within the Fish Biology research area. We run two experimental facilities and 4 modern laboratories. We offer students and internships, a professional learning experience that often involve practical experimental and/or laboratory work related to a student's field of study or career interest.
Salary and appointment terms
Salary and appointment terms are in accordance with the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for Office Clerks, Laboratory Technicians and IT staff (HK/stat).
The full-time position is a three-year fixed term contract. Starting date is 1st of June 2024 (or according to mutual agreement). The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
