Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and methodical engineer to join our team focused on developing functionalized graphene and its applications. This position offers a unique opportunity to work one year on projects related to industrial applications of functionalized graphene, moving academic research towards commercial impact.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Graphene synthesis, transfer and functionalization: synthesize graphene using chemical vapor deposition (CVD), transfer it to various novel substrates, and develop scalable chemical and physical functionalization methods for the graphene.
  • Graphene characterization: assess and evaluate graphene functionalization through established protocols for characterization, such as Raman spectroscopy, optical microscopy, SEM, FTIR, XPS, and surface free energy measurements.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze experimental data to draw meaningful conclusions and contribute to the development of effective and scalable graphene functionalization methods.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to integrate findings into broader research goals and contribute to project advancements.
  • Literature Review: Stay abreast of the latest developments in graphene functionalization methods, incorporating relevant findings into research projects.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, and presentations summarizing research findings for internal dissemination.
  • Actively contribute to our pilot-scale demonstration project to ensure the successful implementation of our lab-scale optimized process at scale.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Materials Science, Physics, or a related field, showcasing demonstrated expertise in graphene, and in particular graphene functionalization and/or CVD graphene, through academic achievements or research projects.
  • Experience in the synthesis and transfer of CVD graphene, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in large-scale/roll-to-roll methods.
  • Demonstrated experience and capacity for innovation in developing scalable graphene functionalization techniques – chemically and/or physically.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with graphene characterization methods, including Raman, SEM, Optical Microscopy, XPS, FTIR, and AFM.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, a meticulous and systematic approach to work, and a collaborative team player.
  • Due to the start of the project, we need candidates who can start as soon as possible.

We offer:

  • Potential for joining fast-paced spin off as an early team member.
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities, resources, and technological infrastructureCollaborative and interdisciplinary work setting, fostering meaningful partnerships with international experts.
  • Continuous learning and professional development opportunities to expand your knowledge and expertise.
  • Key role in driving the development and implementation of advanced technologies.
