BTECH

) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for professorship positions in digital business development.

A professorship is a full-time permanent position. The starting date is 1 October 2024 or as agreed upon.


Job description

Professors are expected to take a leading role in the department’s cross-cutting activities between IT, business, and engineering disciplines. Such activities may involve development of laboratories and experimental facilities, supporting the development of junior faculty, directing interdisciplinary research groups, taking responsibility for broader teaching activities, and leading projects with practical business implications and pronounced industry involvement. 

The successful applicant is expected to teach and supervise students at bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level and may be involved in industry-oriented training. Courses relevant for the position are taught in both Danish and English. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who can teach one or more of the following courses: Digital Business Development from an application and infrastructure perspective (Digital Frontend Systems; Digital Backend Systems), Systems Development, as well as Technology based Business Model Innovation.


Your qualifications

Applicants should have a strong academic background as full professor, associate professor or equivalent.

Candidates with research activities involving and aimed at industry will be preferred.

Furthermore, applicants should hold the following qualifications:

  • A significant record of strong research, as evidenced by publications in highly reputed international journals.
  • A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future high-level research.
  • A track record of excellence in teaching, course management and supervision on topics relevant for our study programmes.
  • A commitment to teaching that provides the students with relevant competences as well as the ability to critically reflect on the topic.
  • A commitment to be involved with industry and the broader society and to prioritise dialogue with practitioners.
  • A track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community combined with a commitment to contribute to a vibrant work environment at our department.
  • A track record of and commitment to attracting external research funding.
  • A track record of demonstrated scientific leadership reflected in an ability to manage research projects, editorial board service, supervision of PhD students, industry collaborations, international collaborations, etc.

Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.

Permanent employment as a professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course  and also the course Online and blended learning  provided by the Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. If you have not completed the courses before the commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a two-year period.

BTECH is located in the business-oriented and entrepreneurial city of Herning. The department excels in business, IT, and engineering disciplines and emphasises the importance of company collaborations. We have around 1,200 students and 100 faculty and staff. Each year, 500 students are involved in company projects in more than 250 companies ranging from SMEs to leading multinationals.

We influence society through business development and technology. For this reason, many research projects are conducted in close collaboration with industry on the basis of new data and new technologies. These projects are generously supported by ERC, Horizon Europe, the Independent Research Fund Denmark, the Danish Industry Foundation, among others.

The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
