Job Description

Technical University of Denmark and its Department of Technology, Management and Economics (DTU Management) is looking for an established professor with a strong theoretical orientation on strategic management and organizational leadership.
Of particular interest is interdisciplinary research competences for studying advanced technologies, including but not limited to digital, and the emergent opportunities and challenges for private and public companies in terms of strategy, organizing and leadership. The capability to contribute to theoretical and methodological development in areas of strategic interest to leadership in companies and societies is valued. Here a state-of-art knowledge of current research perspectives is important. The candidate will have a track record in academic leadership including publishing excellent research and doing high quality teaching. The candidate should also be capable of communicating research-based and applicable knowledge to various audiences including executives. His or her research should be attractive to funding bodies that seek to make an impact in an increasingly uncertain global environment. 
Responsibilities and qualifications
DTU is looking for a candidate who has a strong, proven track record in research and education at an international level in Organization studies and/or Strategic management. Our vision is to become a leader in Europe and beyond in research that enables organizational leadership to realize the potential of advanced technologies (see e.g. European Union on key enabling technologies). Our research standpoint is how to lead, strategize and organize amidst technological change and in the cross-section of various technologies such as artificial intelligence, life sciences and/or advanced materials. The business environment is not only being characterized by advancing technology, of course, but also uncertainties related to social and political situation and the natural environment. Our research takes place against various uncertainties yet has the strategic intent of making a difference. We are searching for a person who shares such a commitment and is able to contribute to the research that enlightens senior leadership across companies and societies.
In addition to research competences, candidates must be enthusiastic about teaching and interacting with students at different levels. The candidate should have had successful experience in teaching and supervising bachelor and master students as well as senior executives. They should understand that reflection and personal development is vital for innovation in a society. Furthermore, the candidates should believe in dialogue and feedback as the best foundation for sound decision-making and strive to develop talent within others.
The successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership in research aiming at strengthening the profile and international visibility of the department
  • Frequently publish in international top journals
  • Teach and supervise at undergraduate and graduate level as well as in executive programs
  • Collaborate externally with academia, the industry and public organisations
  • Attract grants and initiate and secure external funding for new projects
  • Guide and supervise early career researchers
  • Have interest in the development of the Section’s research agenda toward theoretical and methodological excellence with a world-wide impact.

DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time master both.

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Documented experience and quality of teaching and curriculum development
  • Research impact and experience, funding track record and research vision
  • International impact and experience 
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Furthermore, you will also be assessed against:

  • Openness to working with industry, society and government; Documented experience in applying your research in practice
  • Capability in providing research leadership; Dedication to developing early career researchers
  • Capability of taking initiative and translating ambitious visions into research and teaching programs together with your colleagues

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
