DTU Tenure Track Researcher in the field of fluid flow through porous media

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 16 Dec 2022

Danish Offshore Technology Centre (DTU Offshore), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for a researcher position in the field of fluid flow through porous media, from micro to macro scale with a focus on experimental research.

The candidate initially will support the existing research projects at DTU Offshore, as an integrated part of the CO2 storage program and Project Bifrost with a focus on reducing the CO2 footprint of oil and gas production and evaluating the feasibility and de-risking CO2 storage in chalk reservoirs in the Danish part of the North Sea. In the longer term, candidate will actively apply for external funding from public and private research funds to support new research within the scientific framework of DTU Offshore and build his/her own research group in the field of fluid flow through porous media.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your main activities will include:

  • Developing and conducting innovative experimental research on reactive fluid flow in chalk porous media, applicable to CO2 storage, produced water re-injection, and fluid mobilization in the North Sea fields, in order to extend DTU Offshore’s competencies within subsurface processes. This includes taking leadership of the core flooding activities.
  • Conducting excellent research in reservoir engineering aspects of research projects at DTU Offshore and publication of articles in international high-ranked journals.
  • Participating in projects and collaborations related to research-based public sector support

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, or equivalent as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as a postdoc.

  • All candidates must have documented experience in conducting experimental research in the field of fluid flow in porous media such as enhanced oil and gas recovery and CO2 storage.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience of planning and execution of core flooding experiments at high pressures and temperatures, routine and special core analyses, and preferably experience with both excellence and impact-oriented research, including sector collaboration and public sector research is required.
  • Strong background in reservoir engineering, fractured reservoirs, carbonate (specifically Chalk) oil and gas fields and a great knowledge of reservoir modelling are highly desirable.
  • Candidate must be familiar/have experience with CT-imaging and conducting flow experiments in CT scanner and analyzing the results.
  • Candidates must have documented experience in project management skills.
  • A mix of industrial and academic experience is also desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of analytical chemistry to perform supplementary chemical analyses is a plus.

Flexibility and self-motivation are desired skills at DTU. In addition, we expect you to be interested in collaboration and take personal responsibility for your work, and:

  • You are motivated by both individual and team accomplishments
  • You thrive on collaboration and teamwork
  • You are focused on the process as well as the outcome

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
