With this new position we offer you the possibility to become the key person in the maintenance, shaping, and development of the field of experimental mechanics in an exciting and innovative environment, with the aim of generating unique research data related to the mechanics of structures and materials. The setting will be one of the largest and most modern experimental facilities in Europe for mechanical testing of structures and materials. The position will be part of the scientific environment of the Section for Structures and Safety, which is one of nine sections at the Department for Civil and Mechanical Engineering. In the section, your colleagues are professionals and experts in structural design covering steel, concrete, and glass structures, loads on structures, advanced structural analysis and assessment, as well as experimental mechanics.

Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of the management of the experimental infrastructure in the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, dedicated to testing the mechanics of structures and materials. You will, together with the rest of the management of the infrastructure, be responsible for the maintenance and development of the facility. You will be overseeing and taking part in the experimental activities in the facility generating research data, and you will assist users with planning and execution of activities with particular focus on reinforced concrete structures including validation of analytical and numerical models with experimental evidence. Elements of these activities include:

  • Taking part in the development of or developing your own research with strong elements of experimental mechanics
  • Supporting the industry with state of the art research to support development and innovation
  • Taking home commercial projects with strong elements of experimental mechanics
  • Fundraising for the maintenance and renewal of the research infrastructure
  • Assisting and supervising student activities

You have a strong background in experimental mechanics, testing of structures and materials on different scales, and a solid knowledge in the mechanics of structures and materials including reinforced concrete.

You are enthusiastic about lab work and you seek to develop and optimize experimental techniques. You master the task of choosing appropriate calculation methods for assessment of load bearing capacity, both on material and structural level, including advanced numerical methods such as the finite element method.

You are fond of teaching, you like interaction with students, and you have some experience in teaching and student supervision in one or more of the fields covered by the Section.

Furthermore you are able to demonstrate a strong internationally recognized research profile, fundraising experience, and you have good communication skills in English and preferably also in Danish, both written and spoken.

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. You will be expected to learn Danish and be able to teach in Danish after 3 years. DTUcan provide Danish language courses.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary for the position will be determined by the applicant’s qualifications and in agreement with the relevant union.
