Job Description

Unlock your passion for sustainability, creativity and science by joining the CORC project at DTU. CORC is an interdisciplinary research center funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (see https://corc.au.dk/  for details). The center develops knowledge and technology that can be used to capture and recycle carbon dioxide and uses both chemical and biological approaches. CORC is organized with a main hub at Aarhus University and satellites at different universities in Denmark and abroad. The satellite at DTU focuses on the application of biocatalysis for the capture and conversion of CO2 , and covers activities within discovery, engineering and characterization of different enzyme classes. The CORC group at DTU collaborates closely with other groups in the CORC center and is also engaged in other research projects with a related scope such as the BIG project (https://biocat.ncsu.edu/ ).

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are seeking a tenure track researcher with extensive experience within fundamental aspects of industrial biocatalysis. This includes a documented research record in discovery, design, engineering, characterization, and/or application of industrial enzymes. We expect a level of research experience which corresponds to several years of post doc work with significant independence within e.g. selection of methods, scientific writing, and prioritization of research questions. In addition to being responsible for your own research activities, you will be strongly engaged in the supervision of graduate students, organization of the laboratory and contacts to external collaborators. Most of the planned work will be conducted in collaboration with industrial partners, and candidates with comprehensive and successful experience in university-industry collaboration will be preferred. It would also be an advantage if you have previous experience with carbon capture and conversion.

Key competences include:

  • Protein chemistry
  • Enzyme assay development
  • Enzyme kinetics and kinetic modelling
  • Heterologous gene expression
  • Protein engineering and -purification
  • Rapid screening of enzyme function
  • Enzyme structure-function relationships
  • Student guidance
  • Project leadership

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The starting date is July 1st 2024 or close to this date according to mutual agreement. The position is a full-time position.
