Job Description

Are you ready to lead research within in stem cell-based nerve tissues?
DTU Health Tech is strengthening and expanding our research and teaching within human engineered tissues derived from stem cells, and their use within basic biomedical research and drug development. Specifically, we are looking to expand our research within models of the Brain, Nervous System, and the Eye.
The position will guide you towards increasing independence, where you will ultimately be heading your own research group. So, you should be a talented mid-career researcher with and proven track record and a clear vision for your future research. 
At DTU Health Tech, you will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure and an ambitious interdisciplinary environment, providing you with ideal conditions for breaking new grounds within technical and biomedical research. 
Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to develop a research program within stem cell derived organotypic models of the human eye and nerve system. You will also be teaching on both graduate and undergraduate levels and are expected to supervise bachelor and master thesis projects. 
Your responsibilities will be to develop novel eye models, to investigate human disease, infections, and develop assays to test possible treatments. A critical aspect will be to secure external funding for research projects within these areas. Thus, previous experience and success within fund-raising will be a regarded as an important strength. 
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in cell biology, pharmacology, biophysics, or similar, and relevant postdoc experience. Additionally, you are expected to the following competences:    

  • Strong expertise and proven publication track record within stem cell culture and organoid tissue models.
  • High level of competence within quantitative biochemical assays such as qPCR, Western Blots, RNA sequencing.
  • Experience within tissue models of and/or drug delivery in the eye.
  • Strong experience within microscopy. 

In addition, the following will be regarded as strengths:

  • Experience with virus rescue and infection studies.
  • Experience with electroretinograms.
  • Proven success within fund-raising. 

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment 
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.  Starting date will be earliest availability or 1 August 2024.
