Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 30 Jul 2023

Expected start date and duration of the employment

Starting date from October 1st, 2023, or upon mutual agreement. Minimum duration of the employment is two years.

The Aarhus supernova group is seeking a talented individual to join the Aarhus-Barcelona cosmic FLOWS program.  FLOWS is using an assortment of facilities to obtain near-infrared observations of hundreds of nearby type Ia supernovae with the aim to map the peculiar velocity field of the local Universe.  Ultimately, FLOWS aims to perform cosmography of our home supercluster's dark matter distribution,  constrain the growth-rate of structure, and provide a testbed on intermediate scales for gravity and modern cosmological models. FLOWS currently seeks a postdoc to contribute to running the observational efforts, manage the FLOWS photometry pipeline, improve the photometric calibration, and the construction of a Hubble diagram. In addition to collaboration with a local PhD student, the postdoc will collaborate with project members in Barcelona,  and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the NUTS and POISE supernova followup collaborations.

Your Profile

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in physics or astronomy, or equivalent, and have demonstrated abilities with broad-band photometry and python software development. Previous experience with observing, near-IR image processing, galaxy subtraction, and photometric calibration is ideal.

Deadline

Applications must be received by July 30, 2023.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Letter of reference

If you want a referee to upload a letter of reference on your behalf, please state the referee’s contact information when you submit your application. We strongly recommend that you make an agreement with the person in question before you enter the referee’s contact information, and that you ensure that the referee has enough time to write the letter of reference before the application deadline. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure that letters of reference received after the application deadline will be taken into consideration.
